Cheerleading is experiencing tremendous growth in popularity throughout Canada and around the world. As a result, it is now recognized by the International Olympic committee (IOC) as a provisional Olympic sport. Cheerleading involves stunting, tumbling, pyramids, tosses, jumps, and dance - all choreographed into a dynamic 2.5-minute routine. At competitions, routines are judged on difficulty, technique, precision, and creativity among teams of the same level and age division. A cheerleading team consists of 5 to 38 people and, unique among team sports, has essential roles for male and female athletes of all strengths, sizes, abilities, and skill sets. Athletes work together to build intricate stunts and pyramids that involve physical strength as well as a bond of trust between base athletes (the lifters) and the flyers (the athletes in the air). Cheerleading takes a healthy mix of attitude, teamwork, strength, and stamina creating mentally strong competitors, physically strong athletes, and exceptional people.

The Air Force Mavericks gym “The Hangar” is located at 40 Anderson Boulevard – 8 minutes west of Uxbridge and just minutes north of both Markham and Stouffville.  Our ranks include athletes from as far north as Barrie, as far east as Lindsay and as far west as Burlington.  A little bit of driving is worth it to be a Maverick!  The Hangar is a state-of-the-art 16,000 square foot training facility boasting three full-size, unobstructed sprung competition floors, a sprung tumble floor area, a raised Tumbl-Trak with a regulation landing pit and a large variety of tumbling equipment.  The Hangar also has two parent viewing areas with a central coffee bar, change rooms, an on-site chiropractic office and a camp activity/birthday party area.  Our audio and video capabilities are second to none; Inside the gym we have a built-in slow motion and wide angle ‘judges view’ replay system.  We also have an audio visual live stream that allows our parents in the viewing area to watch their athletes during practices from a performance angle – the very best seats in the house!  In addition, our very own ‘Prop Shop’ offers every type of Mavericks clothing, gear and glitter you can dream of.  Of course, the best part of our gym is the energy that comes from the 240+ Mavericks that walk through the door each week – Come and see all of the fun and hard work happening every night at the Hangar!

Meet our Managing Directors and Head Coaches Megan MacLennan and Patrick Mislan. Megan and Patrick met when they were stunt partners on the Queen’s University collegiate level 6 team. Since then, they have coached Open Level 5 and 6 All-Girl and Co-ed teams together in Edmonton, Alberta. Most notably, in 2014, their IO6 team advanced to finals at the USASF World Championships, qualifying 2nd in Canada and ranking 11th overall. They are USASF-certified coaches and also judges at cheer competitions across Canada. Megan and Patrick are excited to enter their fifth season at the Mavericks and look forward to continuing to grow the club!

Our team of certified coaches are knowledgeable and passionate about the sport of cheerleading. We strive to not only build champion athletes, but also strong, compassionate and dedicated people. We teach our athletes to focus on what they can control - attitude, effort, team work, commitment, technique, and athleticism. We celebrate achievements at competition but also value successes during the season-long journey that we undertake as a team, including skill development, friendships, life lessons,

and creating memories.

The coaching staff at the Air Force Mavericks is committed to a ‘Positive Progression Methodology’. By empowering athletes through guided and safe progressions and constructive feedback, this coaching strategy not only fosters skill development, but also builds confidence, enthusiasm, and self-esteem. We believe that an accomplishment is the most rewarding when it is hard-earned.

Air Force Mavericks is unique among cheer gyms in that all of our competitive teams and tumbling classes are led by experienced, senior coaches - from our Tiny team to our elite tumbling classes. The quality of coaching and athlete training is consistent across all teams, regardless of age or level, because we believe that strong fundamentals are the key to building well-rounded and successful athletes.

Air Force Mavericks is first class and we thank you all for providing our daughters with a vehicle to achieve their goals and a place for them to build long lasting strong supportive friendships. We are so proud to be a part of this Cheer Family!

Being a Maverick has helped my daughter to become strong, competitive and determined while learning what it is to be accountable to your teammates. I can’t thank them enough for the guidance they gave my daughter in helping her prepare for cheering at the university level.

Melissa and Jeff

When the Air Force Mavericks opened in 2013 and my oldest daughter asked us to quit competitive dance and join cheerleading, my husband and I were both disappointed and very skeptical. Going into our fifth year now with the club, we have never looked back. Every time our girls take to the mat whether at practice or competition, I think for a moment of how cheer has changed our lives.....and my heart smiles.

"The Mavericks have become the centre of our universe! Great coaches, personable, easy to approach… The Hangar is a great facility, and my two girls are die-hard cheerleaders!"

"This is our home away from home, and our non-blood family! Joining the AFM family was THE BEST decision that we ever made for our daughter! Everyone involved in this organisation is incredibly kind and dedicated to developing their athletes in a fun, exciting, and creative, but disciplined, manner. They empower their athletes to do, and be, their best, in all aspects - inside and outside of the gym."

"Professional coaches in a positive and fun environment. Everyone we have met so far has been welcoming and friendly. My daughter loves it at Mavericks and the smile on all the girls faces, especially my daughters, speaks volumes."

"My Daughter has been at cheer camp for 3 weeks this summer and thoroughly enjoyed herself everyday. We will be signing her up for more weeks next year without
a doubt! Please relay our thanks and appreciation to the mavericks team who
helped make her 3 weeks so amazing!"
